In University Heights, Councilmember Todd Gloria helped break ground for renovations to the joint-use fields at Birney Elementary School, which will be completed by fall. Improvements include a 1.6-acre irrigated turf multipurpose field, a .25-acre perimeter walkway, fencing and an accessible pathway into the field.

The YMCA of Orange County, Santa Ana unified School District and the Santa Ana YMCA Board Members will be hosting the ground breaking event to celebrate the start of construction for the Segerstrom High School Aquatic Center and the First Phase of development for the Santa Ana YMCA, on Tuesday, March 16. A special joint use agreement has been adopted by the YMCA of Orange County and the SAUSD.

Faced with mounting debt and declining revenues, the Mt. Diablo YMCA announced last week that the Clayton Valley branch will close all operations at the end of March. This will leave the city of Clayton without a recreation program.

On a split vote, the Parlier Unified School District has approved a joint use agreement with the City of Parlier for use of the proposed new Parlier High School gymnasium. But because of several concerns, the Parlier City Council tabled the item on Feb. 17, the night before the school board meeting.
