Pediatricians call for changes in community design to combat obesity and promote physical activity — 6/11/2009

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued its first policy recommendation, pointing to changes in how cities and communities are laid out as one way to address the United States’ rising rates of physical inactivity and related health problems. The Academy encourages physicians, parents and government officials to push for more safe parks and open spaces, giving priority to lower-income neighborhoods that are less likely to have enough of these resources.
