Following special meetings by both the Parlier City Council and the Parlier Unified School District Board of Trustees last week, a joint use agreement for the proposed new Parlier High School gynmasium has been approved.

On a split vote, the Parlier Unified School District has approved a joint use agreement with the City of Parlier for use of the proposed new Parlier High School gymnasium. But because of several concerns, the Parlier City Council tabled the item on Feb. 17, the night before the school board meeting.

CA Dept. of Public Health secures funding for obesity prevention

California Project LEAN, in partnership with the California Center for Physical Activity, has taken the lead for the physical activity component of the funding.  The physical activity initiative will focus on joint use of school facilities, and CDPH will lay the ground work to advance state and local policies that increase equitable access to safe and attractive school facilities outside of the school day for physical activity and recreation.

The Los Angeles school board is considering authorizing $3 million for the construction of a new swimming pool at San Pedro High School. The new pool would be operated through a joint-use agreement with the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks.

Work is beginning on a $24.5 million state-of-the-art sports complex at Luther Burbank High School in South Sacramento, which has a dearth of athletic fields.
